Key Position Details
  • 1.0 FTE (80 hours per two-week period)
  • 8-hour day/evening shift
  • Union represented, benefit eligible
  • Occasional weekends - upon completion of training, weekend rotation will be approximately once every six weeks
Job Description

As a Histotechnologist, you will perform moderate and complex specimen procedures in anatomical/surgical pathology and immunohistochemistry. You will oversee one or more technical work areas, ensuring regulatory compliance, new method project plans, technical communications, and cost-effective inventory control. You will serve as a lead for training students and new employees, participate in system competency development, and assist in the direct observation of staff for the annual competency program. You will function as a liaison to system Technical Specialist and serve as Charge Tech in the absence of Lead/Supervisor/Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures.
  • Perform all routine histology functions that support the production of microscopic slides for interpretation by a pathologist.
  • Accession tissue specimens, assist Pathologist Assistants, section frozen tissue using a cryostat, process and embed tissue specimens, perform microtomy and staining, prepare solutions and stains, complete specialty testing using histochemical and/or immunohistochemical techniques, and perform quality control procedures.
  • Evaluate results for accuracy and resolve complex test problems.
  • Perform and document required instrument maintenance and quality control; take appropriate remedial action.
  • Ensure appropriate record keeping and retention.
  • Maintain oversight as a key operator of multiple work areas.
  • Recognize problems and take appropriate measures to resolve them using excellent customer service skills.
  • May assist with biopsy collection.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in histotechnology or related science from a accredited institution plus completion of clinical internship
  • CLIA defined Qualifications: * Standard; Testing personnel qualifications
  • CLIA defined Qualifications: * Technologist qualifications on or before February 28, 1992
  • Histotechnologist, HTL certification by a recognized agency such as ASCP or NCA within 180 Days required
