Job Summary:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) on our Cardiology Unit, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care to our adult population. Our fast-paced 45-bed medical stepdown unit is dedicated to serving patients with acute diagnoses who require close monitoring and specialized care.

Responsibilities:

Assist with patient care tasks such as toileting, collecting and labeling specimens, and assisting with bed transfers, positioning, and walking.

Administer medications as prescribed, under the supervision of a registered nurse, and document all medication administration accurately.

Monitor patient conditions, report any unusual symptoms or changes, and record care delivered according to unit policies.

Maintain a clean and safe environment, including utility rooms, soiled linen, and equipment, and perform terminal cleaning as needed.

Assist with patient admissions, orientation, transfers, and discharges, and escort patients to and from different departments or divisions.

Requirements:

Must have a temporary permit or a valid license as a practical nurse in the State of Pennsylvania.

Must successfully pass the Altoona Hospital pharmacology challenge exam.

Must maintain CPR certification.

Must take nurse assignment at the top of LPN license in a Med/Surg/Tele OR Emergency Department setting.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

Must complete licensure examination within FOUR MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first.

Must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP), and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification.

Must have Act 34.
