Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager and guided by the policies and procedures of UCSF Medical Center, Ambulatory Services, and the Department of Ophthalmology, the Orthoptist will provide patient services under direct or indirect ophthalmologist supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • See patients under the supervision of the attending pediatric ophthalmologist and provide patient care and technical support for pediatric ophthalmology patients, adults with binocular vision problems, eye movement disorders, and strabismus.
  • Provide optometry screening clinics and work collaboratively with the ophthalmology team to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare providers to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest clinical practices, technologies, and research in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
  • Demonstrates proficiency in electronic medical record documentation
  • Two (2) years of experience as an Orthoptist in pediatric ophthalmology and/or adult strabismus clinic
  • CPR/BLS through AHA
  • Orthoptist Certification through The American Orthoptic Council within two years of hire and maintained throughout tenure
