Role Summary

The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive orientation program approved by corporate standards, focusing on regulatory compliance in long-term care (LTC) while embodying Bethesda's core values and mission. This role includes conducting General Orientation sessions that align with corporate guidelines, integrating relevant OSHA and federal and state regulations. The educator will emphasize staff and resident safety, including emergency preparedness, fire safety, and injury prevention, particularly for staff interacting with residents with Alzheimer’s disease.

The Clinical Nurse Educator will coordinate and oversee orientation activities, providing insights into the evaluation of new staff and recommending their progression based on assessed learning needs. This position also involves supporting mentorship initiatives and fostering a culture of professional development within the workplace.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Creating lesson plans and delivering in-service training programs, including mandatory sessions.
  • Conducting needs assessments to identify additional training requirements based on staff feedback, state survey results, and the introduction of new technologies.
  • Instructing staff on essential computer skills relevant to their roles and guiding them on utilizing online educational resources.
  • Collaborating closely with the Director of Nursing (DON) to promote teamwork and enhance quality care.
  • Facilitating the state-approved Nurse Assistant Training Program or CMT program, ensuring compliance with state regulations.
  • Implementing and managing an ongoing infection prevention and control program to mitigate the risk of infections.
  • Establishing facility-wide protocols for identifying, reporting, and controlling infections and communicable diseases.
  • Providing education to staff, residents, and families regarding infection prevention.
  • Maintaining thorough documentation of all infection control activities and ensuring compliance with public health reporting requirements.
  • Participating in continuous quality improvement (QAPI) initiatives to enhance resident care processes.

Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • BSN or equivalent educational background in education preferred.
  • Current RN licensure in Missouri and Illinois.
  • CPR/AED certification required or willingness to obtain within six months.
  • Experience in long-term care settings is essential.
  • Minimum of five years of recent clinical nursing experience.
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking, and mentoring skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic medical records (EMR).
  • Ability to effectively communicate and teach adult learners.
  • Commitment to understanding and addressing the needs of the geriatric population.
