Overview
The George Washington University is seeking a skilled Community Policy Strategist to join our team. This role will play a critical part in advancing the Center for Community Resilience's mission and goals through strategic policy guidance and government affairs coordination.
Job Description
This position reports to the Director of the Center for Community Resilience and provides strategic policy guidance, overseeing advocacy strategies and technical assistance to support the national network of over 15 teams across the country.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Policy Lab team to develop policy briefs based on qualitative and quantitative research from local health departments participating in the Resilience Catalysts in Public Health initiatives.
- Lead technical assistance in policy and advocacy activities for CCR coalition members and local health departments.
- Manage Policy Lab staff and student researchers.
- Provide historical and contextual research to support policy briefs and communication tools.
- Track legislation and apprise CCR senior team of pertinent legislative issues, external factors, and policy opportunities that could impact the CCR policy agenda.
- Develop relationships with Congressional staffers and provide timely updates as needed.
- Meet with lawmakers and community stakeholders on a regular basis.
- Oversee development of presentation materials for stakeholder meetings.
- Develop talking points for CCR leadership and key stakeholders.
Requirements
- A Master's degree plus 5 years of experience or a PhD plus 2 years of experience in a related discipline.
- Demonstrated knowledge of public policy and research procedures and federal, state, or local policy and legislative process.
- Systems thinking and equity-focused perspective.
- Familiarity with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Canva, and BaseCamp.

Salary
The estimated salary range for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
