Position Overview

The Correctional Registered Nurse plays a vital role in the healthcare system within correctional facilities. This position requires collaboration with various healthcare professionals, correctional staff, and administrative personnel to maintain the health and safety of the incarcerated individuals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Conducts focused interviews to identify specific needs of patients.
  • Monitors signs and symptoms indicating physiological and psychosocial changes in patients.
  • Completes health histories for newly admitted inmates.
  • Refers inmates to appropriate healthcare providers when necessary.
  • Determines the need for emergency medical care and ensures compliance with medication administration protocols.
  • Collects and analyzes data from healthcare team members and documents nursing diagnoses.
  • Develops and documents a patient care plan based on identified nursing diagnoses and expected outcomes.
  • Prioritizes actions based on patient care requirements.
  • Ensures consistency between the patient care plan and actions taken by medical staff.
  • Implements interventions according to established priorities and hospital policies.
  • Initiates and evaluates patient education programs.
  • Revises care plans based on evaluations and changes in medical treatment.
  • Documents patient responses to nursing interventions.
  • Supervises and trains other healthcare professionals on-site.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current Registered Nurse License in the relevant state.
  • Preferred: Minimum of one year of experience in correctional healthcare.
  • Adheres to all professional standards of practice.
  • Completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
  • Current CPR certification if applicable.
  • TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray as required.
  • Current health certificate as per contract or state regulations.
  • Meets all federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Successful completion of new hire training as required.
  • Understands patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in English.
  • Computer proficiency is required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
