Key Responsibilities
  • Safeguard and protect patient confidentiality by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to medical information and that all releases of information are in compliance with requests, authorizations, company policy, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Compile, process, and maintain medical records of hospital and clinic patients in accordance with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the healthcare system.
  • Prioritize release of information requests, retrieve medical records from active, inactive, and interdepartmental locations, and electronically track and deliver records in accordance with established procedures.
  • Perform self-quality checks on all work to ensure accuracy of releases, confidentiality, and proper billing/charging.
  • Exercise critical thinking skills, make decisive judgments, and work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree.
  • 2 years' related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, training in Medical Terminology and Human Anatomy.
  • Certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
