Job Overview

Position Summary

The Energy Storage Applications Specialist is integral to the development, commercialization, and enhancement of large-scale battery storage solutions. This multifaceted role includes traditional applications engineering tasks as well as advanced product management responsibilities that align with Peak's strategic product vision. A solid understanding of energy storage physics and power systems is essential, coupled with exceptional communication abilities. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with design, commercial, and operational teams, engaging directly with clients to design, market, and implement our sodium-ion battery storage technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Interaction:

  • Act as a technical intermediary between the organization and clients, resolving technical questions and offering solutions.
  • Keep clients informed about Peak's product development progress through comprehensive documentation and face-to-face meetings.
  • Facilitate training sessions and workshops for clients on the functionality and upkeep of battery storage systems.
  • Collect client feedback and partner with the R&D team to foster product enhancements and innovations.

Product Oversight:

  • Manage and refine the product specifications for Peak's initial utility-scale energy storage offering, ensuring alignment with client requirements and feedback from engineering teams.
  • Develop Peak's technical strategies regarding product warranties, performance assurances, long-term service agreements, and spare parts accessibility.
  • Identify new certification needs driven by client applications for Peak's products.

Project Engineering:

  • Lead engineering initiatives for Peak's pilot and commercial battery projects.
  • Create detailed engineering specifications and documentation to guide the planning and execution of pilot initiatives.
  • Collaborate with utilities, grid operators, and regulatory agencies to fulfill compliance and interconnection standards.

Technical Assistance:

  • Oversee the internal validation processes of Peak's products to ensure adherence to application requirements established by the product team.
  • Provide technical support to business development and project management teams to facilitate sales and product advancement.
  • Assist in drafting technical proposals, feasibility assessments, and cost analyses.
  • Conduct site evaluations and support the installation and commissioning of battery storage systems.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in energy storage, power systems, or related sectors.
  • Knowledge of battery storage technologies, power electronics, and grid integration.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work autonomously as well as collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of conveying complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences through written and verbal formats.
  • A willingness to contribute to a rapidly growing early-stage company, where establishing necessary infrastructure is part of the role.
  • Readiness to travel to project sites and client locations as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with large-scale battery storage initiatives.
  • Understanding of regulatory standards and interconnection protocols.
  • Familiarity with the deployment and operation of renewable energy systems, including solar and wind technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware product development and high-voltage systems.
  • Project management experience and familiarity with project management software.
