- Conduct assignments with minimal guidance
- Replace defective parts, adjust clearances, and align moving parts
- Assemble and install equipment using hand tools and power tools
- Position steel beams to support bedplates of machines and equipment
- Move machinery and equipment using chain hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks
- Lay out mounting holes accurately and drill holes to the proper size
- Shrink-fit bushings, sleeves, rings, liners, gears, and wheels using thermal expansion or liquid nitrogen technique
- Operate rigging and overhead crane equipment, lifting devices, and inspect and load calculations
- Demonstrate proficiency on a drill press and other basic shop equipment
- Align pumps and motors efficiently using the dial indicator method
- Work at heights and in confined spaces
- Communicate effectively and work independently or in a group
- Perform basic math calculations and read, write, speak, and comprehend English
- Read and understand blueprints and assembly drawings
- Use standard shop measuring tools, including micrometers, vernier scales, and rulers
- Operate hand tools, such as files, hacksaws, wrenches, and porta-powers
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3 years of relevant work experience preferred
- Proven skills, work history, and/or applicable education will be considered in lieu of work experience
- Work indoors in a shop setting with occasional outdoor work
- Use safety equipment, including hard hats, eye and ear protection, respirators, and leather shoes
- Be exposed to acids, de-greasing cleaners, paints, solvents, oil, grease, liquid steel, putty, oil vapors, petroleum, caustics, fumes, noise, raw sewage, and asbestos
- Operate hand and power tools, wrenches, hoists, machine tooling equipment, and measuring instruments
