Job Summary

Vigor is seeking a skilled Marine Mechanic to join our team. As a Marine Mechanic, you will be responsible for the mechanical maintenance and emergent repair of ships, as well as yard mechanical maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Comply with craft and shipyard safety and environmental measures
  • Conduct assignments with minimal guidance
  • Replace defective parts, adjust clearances, and align moving parts
  • Assemble and install equipment using hand tools and power tools
  • Position steel beams to support bedplates of machines and equipment
  • Move machinery and equipment using chain hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks
  • Lay out mounting holes accurately and drill holes to the proper size
  • Shrink-fit bushings, sleeves, rings, liners, gears, and wheels using thermal expansion or liquid nitrogen technique
  • Operate rigging and overhead crane equipment, lifting devices, and inspect and load calculations
  • Demonstrate proficiency on a drill press and other basic shop equipment
  • Align pumps and motors efficiently using the dial indicator method
  • Work at heights and in confined spaces
  • Communicate effectively and work independently or in a group
  • Perform basic math calculations and read, write, speak, and comprehend English
  • Read and understand blueprints and assembly drawings
  • Use standard shop measuring tools, including micrometers, vernier scales, and rulers
  • Operate hand tools, such as files, hacksaws, wrenches, and porta-powers
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years of relevant work experience preferred
  • Proven skills, work history, and/or applicable education will be considered in lieu of work experience
Work Environment
  • Work indoors in a shop setting with occasional outdoor work
  • Use safety equipment, including hard hats, eye and ear protection, respirators, and leather shoes
  • Be exposed to acids, de-greasing cleaners, paints, solvents, oil, grease, liquid steel, putty, oil vapors, petroleum, caustics, fumes, noise, raw sewage, and asbestos
  • Operate hand and power tools, wrenches, hoists, machine tooling equipment, and measuring instruments
