Position Overview:

Are you passionate about providing care to children and families affected by congenital heart disease? The Children's Heart Institute is seeking an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner to join our dedicated Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery team.

Your main responsibility will be to deliver advanced clinical care and guidance to patients and their families, as well as to the ancillary care team, focusing on pre-operative and post-operative management.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform complex patient care procedures requiring specialized training.
  2. Conduct independent and physician-supervised rounding on the unit.
  3. Evaluate and assess patients, providing appropriate treatments and monitoring.
  4. Coordinate and implement patient care plans.
  5. Assist in gathering patient histories and screening for co-morbidities.
  6. Conduct physical examinations and provide episodic care under physician supervision.
  7. Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests.
  8. Monitor treatment programs and communicate relevant medical information to attending physicians.
  9. Facilitate patient education on medical processes, medications, and health promotion.
  10. Assist in therapeutic decision-making alongside physicians.
  11. Maintain accurate records and prepare charts for physician review.
  12. Prepare and manage supplies and equipment.
  13. Respond to emergency situations as needed.
  14. Perform other assigned duties within the scope of practice.

Qualifications:

  • Current Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Current Texas Licensure as an APRN-NP
  • Specialty certification as required by the department
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or specialty certification as required

Education:

Master's degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner or a Master's degree in Nursing with completion of a post-master's Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.

Experience:

No prior experience required; however, previous experience in the clinical focus area is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
