Under general supervision, the Occupational Therapist is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing a range of medically essential sensorimotor, educational, recreational, social, and therapeutic activities aimed at assisting participants in regaining physical or mental capabilities or adapting to their disabilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to synchronize rehabilitative services for participants.
- Creates a tailored treatment program aligned with the objectives of the care plan following participant evaluation.
- Instructs participants in the skills and techniques necessary for engaging in treatment and program activities.
- Records all care provided to participants and ensures timely submission to medical records.
- Maintains clinical documentation, statistics, Data PACE, and related forms accurately and promptly.
- May oversee the activities of Occupational Therapy Assistants, Rehabilitation Technicians, students, and other rehabilitation staff.
- Actively engages in professional organizations and in-service education programs by leading discussions and presenting findings.
- Performs additional related duties as required.
- Conducts initial and periodic assessments, including home and facility evaluations as necessary.
- Communicates changes in participant status to team members and documents them in the care plan.
- Assists in coordinating comprehensive 24-hour care delivery.
- Completes assessments prior to care conferences with participants.
- A professional level of expertise in Occupational Therapy, typically acquired through a baccalaureate or higher degree program accredited by the American Medical Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
- Must possess legal authorization to practice in Michigan, including a valid License/Certification from The National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy and a valid Occupational Therapy registration certificate from the state of Michigan.
- The role requires specific physical capabilities to lift and position participants and to perform treatment modalities.
- A high degree of interpersonal skills is essential for effective interaction with participants, caregivers, and team members.
- Minimum of one year of experience working with a frail or elderly population.
- At least two years of relevant experience as an occupational therapist.
