Job Summary

As a Field Engineer at American Engineering Testing Inc, you will provide critical support to the Construction Services Division by assisting engineers and technicians with various tasks. Your role will involve conducting geotechnical field testing, performing special inspections, and assisting with laboratory testing and field observation of construction materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct geotechnical field testing and special inspections as required.
  • Assist with laboratory testing and field observation of construction materials.
  • Perform soil boring layout and documentation, utility clearance, and surveying tasks.
  • Train less experienced personnel in routine field work and documentation.
  • Log and classify soil samples in laboratory or fieldwork settings.

Performance of Work/Report Preparation

You will be responsible for preparing reports of field and laboratory work, communicating with clients to determine their project needs, and completing tasks in accordance with project quality requirements.

  • Prepare detailed site visit reports for job files using standard AET forms.

Other Areas of Accountability

You will be expected to conduct field, laboratory, and office activities in a manner consistent with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as AET's QA and Health and Safety Policies. This includes maintaining a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record, as well as adhering to DOT driver regulations if required for the position.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geological, or related Engineering field, as well as 0-3 years of experience in an engineering or science-related field. An internship or previous work experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Preferred Skills

We are looking for individuals with knowledge of fundamental engineering or scientific principles within the specialty area, as well as the ability to apply that knowledge to the job. Engineer in Training (EIT) certification and the ability to achieve professional registration (PE) are also desirable.

Work Environment

This role primarily operates in a field environment in outdoor conditions, on construction sites with uneven ground and adverse weather conditions. Secondary operations take place in an office environment, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

Physical Demands

The physical demands of this role include standing, walking, using hands or fingers, handling or feeling, and reaching with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50-100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
