A Day in the Life

A typical day as a Department Manager will involve:

  • Customer Sales & Profit
    • Ensuring a visually appealing and commercially curated store environment
    • Representing the H&M brand positively during customer interactions
    • Identifying commercial opportunities and taking action to capitalize on them
    • Establishing and analyzing sales and budget goals, creating plans to optimize results
    • Ensuring customer service is provided in all areas of the store
    • Following up on team members' promotion of the Customer Loyalty App and in-store sustainability initiatives
    • Managing department operations in a cost-efficient manner
    • Ensuring correct routines in the fitting room and checkout
  • Fashion & Trend Awareness
    • Staying up-to-date with the latest fashion trends, styles, and brands
    • Ensuring team members provide product and fashion knowledge during customer interactions
  • Team & Development
    • Responsible for recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and upskilling of team members
    • Completing performance evaluations and succession planning to support business and team needs
    • Retaining and sharing knowledge and skills with team members
    • Collaborating with the in-store Visual Merchandiser team
    • Providing and receiving feedback with colleagues to learn, develop, and support each other
    • Responsible for team planning and scheduling
    • Regular communication with store colleagues to inform, motivate, and inspire
  • Retail Operations/Visual & Commercial Execution
    • Ensuring a clean and tidy sales floor and back-of-house areas
    • Ensuring high fashion quality, visual, and commercial product presentation
    • Securing good stock levels and providing input on allocation to the Area team
    • Ensuring the full garment cycle, from delivery to presentation, and fitting room routines are according to our standards
    • Upkeep and follow best practice for in-store OMNI Services and in-store tech services/tools
    • Securing a strong balance and maintenance of price signs in-store
    • Updating and upkeep of BOH areas for all colleagues
    • Responsible for opening and closing the store daily
