Job Summary

Hi-Hope is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team. As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in providing support and assistance to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide supervision and guidance to individuals supported, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Assist individuals with daily living activities, such as grooming, hygiene, meal preparation, and toileting, while promoting independence and choice.
  • Encourage maximum mobility independence and assist with ambulation and transfers as needed.
  • Follow established protocols for medication administration, including observing for and reporting adverse reactions and side effects.
  • Monitor food and drink intake for choking hazards and dietary restrictions, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration.
  • Implement de-escalation techniques to resolve problem situations and maintain a safe and respectful environment.
  • Provide transportation for individuals supported to appointments, meetings, and community outings, adhering to DBHDD and DHS transportation guidelines.
  • Participate in meetings, including ISP, SIS, IDT, and Resident Council, to provide input and support individualized goals and objectives.
  • Plan and participate in community integrated outings, recreational activities, and meaningful day programs to enhance skills and community presence.
  • Record individual information and data accurately and in a timely manner, adhering to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, clean, and healthy environment for individuals supported, visitors, and staff, identifying and reporting safety concerns.
  • Adhere to established protocols for emergencies, including fire, severe weather, and medical emergencies.
  • Coordinate with colleagues to maintain staff-to-individual ratios, as per departmental policy and individual needs.
  • Follow established protocols for infection control and universal precautions, as directed by nursing staff.
  • Comply with all rules, guidelines, and policies outlined in the HHSC employee handbook and relevant agency or regulatory documents.
  • Represent Hi-Hope in a professional and respectful manner when interacting with the community, adhering to the organization's dress code and code of conduct.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • At least one year of related experience working in a residential setting, providing assistance to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (preferred)
  • Familiarity with computer software, Internet, and assistive technology equipment
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification, valid Georgia Driver's license, transportation and vehicle emergency evacuation certification, and QBS certification for de-escalation techniques within 90 days of employment
  • Must be 21 years old, have an acceptable pre-employment physical, and be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Negative drug screening result and a tuberculosis (TB) screening or chest x-ray
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) with no more than two moving violations in a three-year period within the last five years of a seven-year motor vehicle record report
  • Vehicle liability insurance and an acceptable criminal record check
  • Reliable transportation
  • Adequate Functional Health Literacy score on the Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults (TOFHLA)
