Role Purpose

The selected candidate will collaborate with leading researchers on the processing and analysis of atmospheric data collected through advanced research aircraft. This role involves assisting in the creation of software tools for data processing and contributing to the development of project reports, conference presentations, peer-reviewed journal articles, and research proposals.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Process and analyze atmospheric data gathered from research aircraft.
  2. Submit datasets to funding sponsors.
  3. Conduct data analysis and prepare one conference presentation.
  4. Develop and submit one peer-reviewed publication.

Project Involvement

The role will involve significant contributions to two major field projects:

  • Saudi Field Project: This initiative focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of cloud seeding techniques for enhancing rainfall in arid regions. The candidate will engage in data collection and analysis during various operational periods.
  • IMPACTS Field Project: This project aims to improve understanding of winter snowstorm dynamics on the eastern seaboard. The candidate will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of cloud microphysics probes on research aircraft, ensuring data quality and integrity.

Research Development

The candidate will also be tasked with:

  • Writing white papers for multiple atmospheric research initiatives.
  • Independently developing and submitting at least one research proposal annually to major funding agencies.

Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or a closely related discipline (ABD candidates may be considered).
  • Experience in conducting graduate-level research in relevant fields.
  • Strong writing and organizational skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional desirable qualifications include:

  • Experience with aircraft cloud probe operations and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in Python and IDL programming.
  • Familiarity with Airborne Data Processing and Analysis Software.
