Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accountant III to join our team at Baylor St. Lukes Medical Center. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for performing various accounting functions, including month-end close process, cash activity recording, journal entries, account reconciliations, and analysis. You will also assist with the development of tools and processes to enhance internal controls, workflow processes, and desk manual procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Participate in the month-end close process to ensure timely and accurate transaction recording, documenting all work in the general ledger to provide a reliable audit trail.
  2. Review all intercompany activity to ensure proper postings and balances.
  3. Prepare third-party billings in a timely manner.
  4. Interact with key management personnel to gather information, resolve issues, and make recommendations for business and process improvements.
  5. Prepare account reconciliations on a timely basis.
  6. Assist the Manager/Director in initiating and improving processes and procedures to enhance productivity and efficiency.
  7. Prepare journal entries to reflect adjustments or corrections to the general ledger.
  8. Respond to questions about posted transactions and ensure relationships among accounts and other accountants are understood as transactions are processed.
  9. Prepare analysis and assistance to department directors and management for assigned areas of responsibility.
  10. Assist with the preparation of operating or capital budget for assigned entity or areas of responsibility.
  11. Perform budget versus actual analysis for assigned areas, reporting variances to business leaders and assisting with the development of action plans for improved performance.
  12. Serve as a subject matter expert for various financial activities relating to close, billing, or reporting.
  13. Participate in year-end financial statement audits for assigned areas of responsibility.
  14. Assist with various special projects and duties or analysis to ensure performance objectives are met.
  15. Communicate with manager and director regarding work performed, status of open issues, expectations regarding timelines, etc., and promote transparency in all work products.
  16. Assist in training managers on accessing their reports/tools to help administer their respective areas of responsibility.
Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance and five to seven years of experience in accounting, with progressive responsibilities and including three to five years of experience in a specialty area. Hospital finance experience is strongly preferred.

The ideal candidate will have good skills in reading, analyzing, and interpreting general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. They will also be able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, and effectively present information and respond to common inquiries or complaints from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Intermediate knowledge of automated accounting systems and general computer applications such as Microsoft Office suite applications is required, as well as advanced skills and knowledge of Excel.
