Position Overview:
The Accounting Specialist is tasked with overseeing daily financial transaction processing within the Finance Division. This role encompasses all responsibilities linked to the automated financial management system. The Accounting Specialist will collaborate with various auditors, including external general auditors, HUD monitors, insurance auditors, and state reviewers, to ensure adherence to relevant laws and regulations.

Job Title: Accounting Specialist
Department: Finance
Divisional Unit: Central Operations
Reports to: Assistant Director of Finance
Salary Band: $50,000-$60,000
Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Key Responsibilities:
  • Record financial transactions by inputting details into the financial management system.
  • Process, submit, and document payment requests for all funding sources on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Generate and manage customer invoices and oversee Accounts Receivable collections.
  • Handle daily lockbox receipts and ensure accurate recording.
  • Conduct month-end closing activities, including journal entries.
  • Maintain documentation in compliance with funding regulations.
  • Follow established procedures and recommend process enhancements.
  • Assist Finance management during the annual audit process.
  • Uphold confidentiality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and GASB standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fundamental accounting practices.
  • Thorough understanding of GAAP and GASB principles.
