Job Summary

This position is located at the PHS Indian Hospital, Pine Ridge, SD. The Registered Nurse (RN) will perform the primary functions of assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of all assigned patients in the operating room.

Responsibilities
  • Perform intra-operative duties, ensuring aseptic technique is maintained during surgical procedures.
  • Initiate ACLS measures and implement emergency measures as needed.
  • Conduct proper needle and sponge count before and after each procedure.
  • Assist in transporting, moving, and positioning patients.
  • Assist in the care and handling of supplies and equipment.
  • Confer with surgeons concerning instruments, sutures, prosthesis, and special equipment to be used.
  • Ensure aseptic techniques are used in preparation of materials, equipment, and instruments before surgical procedures.
  • Perform various postoperative duties, including ensuring equipment is disassembled, sterilized, cleansed, and stored correctly.
  • Participate in problem-solving to make improvements in the delivery of patient care in collaboration with the staff and nursing administration.
  • Provide patient and family education, including counseling and assisting the patient/family to understand and accept implications of care, diagnosis, and treatment.
Requirements
  • Selectee may be subject to a probationary period.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • This is a designated position covered by Public Law, requiring contact or control over Indian children.
  • Measles and Rubella immunization is required for selectees born after 1957.
  • Seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.
  • On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
