This role is situated within the Indian Health Service, focusing on delivering exceptional nursing care in the operating room setting.
Key Responsibilities
As a Registered Nurse, your primary duties will include:
1. **Intraoperative Care**: Execute essential duties during surgical procedures, ensuring that aseptic techniques are strictly adhered to. You will initiate Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) measures and implement emergency protocols as necessary. Conduct thorough needle and sponge counts before and after each operation.
2. **Preparation for Surgery**: Engage in various preparatory tasks for surgical interventions. This includes assisting in the transportation, positioning, and overall care of patients, as well as managing surgical supplies and equipment. Collaborate with surgeons to confirm the necessary instruments and materials are ready for use, ensuring all items are prepared in a sterile manner.
3. **Postoperative Duties**: Oversee the disassembly, sterilization, and proper storage of surgical equipment. Ensure the collection of medical waste is conducted appropriately and that specimens are sent to the laboratory for analysis.
4. **Patient and Family Education**: Provide comprehensive education to patients and their families, helping them understand the implications of care, diagnosis, and treatment options.
Qualifications
To be eligible for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- A graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited program is mandatory.
- Possession of a current, unrestricted nursing license is essential.
- Experience in a surgical nursing environment is preferred, with a focus on providing care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
Conditions of Employment
Selected candidates may be subject to a probationary period and must pass a background investigation. Compliance with immunization requirements, including Measles, Rubella, and COVID-19 vaccinations, is mandatory. This position may require on-call hours or standby duty.
