Position Overview

George Walton Academy (GWA) is dedicated to providing an enriching educational environment that fosters intellectual curiosity, integrity, and purpose. As an independent, college-preparatory institution, GWA serves students from Pre-K through 12th grade.

We are currently seeking a qualified Lower School Counselor to join our team. The successful candidate will possess expertise in counseling students in grades K3 through 5, focusing on their social and emotional development.

The primary responsibilities of the counselor include:

  • Delivering individualized and small group counseling sessions while maintaining effective communication with parents and families.
  • Collaborating with classroom educators to support student behavior and participate in parent-teacher discussions.
  • Conducting Social/Emotional lessons on a scheduled rotation.
  • Engaging with the Student Success Team to evaluate student progress and strategize interventions for those with identified learning differences.
  • Working closely with the Director of School Counseling to review cases, set programming objectives, and analyze program data.
  • Keeping current resources for educational assessments and private therapy referrals.
  • Identifying students at risk by analyzing program data and student records, and developing intervention plans with a focus on social-emotional growth.
  • Upholding confidentiality standards regarding student, family, and institutional matters.
  • Participating in ongoing professional development and staying informed about legal and ethical standards in school counseling.
  • Utilizing program-specific data and student records to enhance support for students and families.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as required, which may include supervising lunch and carpool duties.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree in school counseling or a related discipline is required.
  • The ideal candidate should demonstrate reliability, initiative, strong organizational skills, and effective communication abilities.
