We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Emergency Dispatcher to join our team at the Shelby County Sheriff's Office. About the Role
As an Emergency Dispatcher, you will be the first point of contact for citizens in need of emergency assistance. You will receive and process emergency calls, dispatch appropriate resources, and provide critical information to officers in the field. Your exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to remain calm under pressure will make you an invaluable asset to our team.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency calls and dispatch law enforcement units as needed
- Process and prioritize incoming calls, ensuring timely and efficient response
- Provide critical information to officers in the field, including suspect descriptions and locations
- Maintain accurate records and logs of all emergency responses
- Collaborate with other agencies and departments to ensure seamless communication and coordination
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
- Must pass a background check and polygraph examination
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to remain calm under pressure
- Proficiency in computer-aided dispatch systems and radio communication equipment
