Job Overview

The Comptroller's Office seeks a dedicated professional to serve as a Corporal within the Criminal Investigation Division. This role encompasses essential law enforcement investigative duties, including the execution of criminal investigations under general supervision, allowing for moderate independence and initiative.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough investigations into criminal activities, including obtaining and executing warrants.
  • Collaborate with various law enforcement agencies to enhance the effectiveness of investigations.
  • Perform undercover operations and make arrests as necessary.
  • Gather, contact, and interview witnesses, suspects, and individuals with potential knowledge of tax fraud.
  • Prepare detailed investigative reports for legal proceedings.
  • Maintain organized case files and manage evidence effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with agency regulations while collecting and evaluating evidence.
  • Testify in court and other official proceedings regarding investigations.
  • Participate in collaborative initiatives with other governmental law enforcement entities.
  • May provide mentorship and guidance to new officers.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A degree from an accredited four-year institution in accounting, business, criminal justice, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Proven experience in law enforcement is essential.
  • Certification as a Texas peace officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement is mandatory.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Familiarity with police methodologies, criminal laws, and regulations.
  • Proficient in investigative techniques and law enforcement practices.
  • Knowledge of state and federal statutes, including the Texas Penal Code.
  • Competence in the use of firearms and radio equipment.
  • Strong interviewing and communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare concise and comprehensive reports.
