Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and direct the work of a team of engineers and technicians
  • Oversee the design and construction of public works projects, including new building construction and remodels
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, ordinances, and regulations
  • Develop and manage budgets for engineering projects
  • Supervise and train engineers and technicians to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties
Requirements
  • Current registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers
  • Four years of full-time experience as a registered engineer performing duties comparable to those of a project, resident, or operations engineer for public works projects
  • Experience in budget preparation, human resources management, and supervision
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to public works construction and design
Working Conditions

May be required to work in excess of 40 hours a week and/or work irregular hours, particularly during emergency situations.

Certification Requirements

May be required to obtain certification from a recognized state, national, or international association, as determined by the County.

Physical Requirements
  • Sit for extended periods, frequently stand and walk
  • Have manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to use a variety of office equipment
  • Have corrected vision to review plans and specifications
  • Occasionally walk on uneven terrain at construction sites
