Position Overview

The Senior Energy Derivatives Trader will engage in trading activities within both US and international energy markets, collaborating with global market dynamics driven by Shell Trading's extensive network. This role is situated within a vibrant and successful trading team that underpins the Group's immediate and strategic objectives.

As a member of the Trading & Supply Products division, you will play a pivotal role in Shell's Downstream operations. T&S Products acts as a crucial integrator within Shell, facilitating enhanced end-to-end value delivery. Our mission involves managing and optimizing the physical supply chain while generating value through proprietary trading.

Reporting directly to the Regional Team Lead for Price Risk Management (PRM), based in Houston, this position will oversee the performance of the Products Derivatives trading portfolio for PRM, with the potential to drive its expansion. As Shell's primary contact for US exchanges regarding Products futures transactions, you will collaborate with a broader global team of derivatives traders and deal structurers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee a proprietary trading portfolio focused on refined products derivatives, employing strategic analysis of Crude, Products, Agricultural commodities, and Metals markets through futures, swaps, and options.
  • Engage in trading activities related to the 'refinery margin' and various crude oil fractions.
  • Provide support to colleagues within the Houston team.
  • Participate in global strategic discussions with the trading team.
  • Ensure accuracy in the overall trade book concerning transactions, exposure, and profitability.
  • Engage in diverse business development initiatives to uncover new value sources from both internal and external financial partners.
  • Champion and enhance PRM's internal execution platform.
  • Drive both short-term and medium-term strategic initiatives.
  • Maintain strict compliance with all Shell Policies & Procedures, the Code of Conduct, and the Compliance Manual.
Qualifications:
  • Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for any employer other than the current one.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant experience is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in crude and/or products derivatives trading.
  • Proven track record in energy commodities derivatives trading, with experience in initiating, executing, and managing substantial positions/strategies that have consistently yielded significant profitability over time.
  • Experience in metals trading is a strong advantage.
  • Background in business development, particularly in deal structuring and relationship management with third parties, is highly desirable.
  • Strong focus on profitability and adeptness in risk and exposure management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, professional maturity, and a solid work ethic are essential for success in this role. A proven history of effectively managing customer relationships and achieving favorable outcomes in negotiations is required.
  • A proactive self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and commercial acumen, capable of adapting trading strategies in a fast-paced and evolving business environment. Team collaboration is crucial.
