About the Role

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team on a PRN basis. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in the interoperative phase of patient care, ensuring the operating room environment is safe and that required equipment is available and functioning properly.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up the OR according to surgical procedure schedules, and arrange sterile setup of instrument tables, supplies, and equipment required for specific procedures.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies during surgical procedures.
  • Prepare operative sites by aseptically cleaning and shaving, as necessary, and assist the surgical team with draping and positioning the patient.
  • Clean the Operating Room following each case by removing drapes, replacing hamper bags and trash bags, disposing of used supplies, cleaning, and returning equipment to appropriate storage areas.
  • Ensure the cleaning, decontamination, sterilization, maintenance, and preparation of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for distribution.
  • Maintain inventory of clean and sterilized surgical equipment, instruments, and supplies in accordance with Baylor Scott and White Health policies and procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Partner and maintain control and maintenance of inventory; order supplies; document equipment use and cart supplies; maintain applicable records and files.
  • Follow infection control policies, AORN recommendation practices, OSHA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements to ensure a safe work environment for self, coworkers, and patients.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and regulatory sterilization standards.
  • Knowledge of the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with surgical and central sterile processing team members.
  • Successful completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited OR other nationally accredited surgical technologist program.
  • Hold and maintain certification as a (CST) surgical technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Testing or their successor.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant, productive CST experience in specialty area.
  • Ability to float across a minimum of three facilities.
  • Ability to work a minimum of 4 shifts per month, plus 1 major and 2 minor holidays.
