About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Care Specialist to join our team at Open Door Health Center.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive, professional mental health services to patients and families in various settings. This includes diagnosing, conducting therapy, and prescribing medication for individuals with psychiatric disorders, medical organic brain disorders, or substance abuse problems.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality mental health care services, including psychosocial and physical assessments, treatment plans, and managing patient care.
  • Work collaboratively as part of an integrated team, offering medical providers consults for mental health issues and collaborating with them as needed.
  • Establish diagnoses, order and interpret studies, perform and monitor therapeutic procedures, assess and/or manage follow-up care.
  • Presume and regulate medications according to patients' healthcare needs.
  • Document health appraisal data accurately and timely, necessary to maintain and/or coordinate required services.
  • Communicate findings of mental healthcare assessments, diagnostic tests, etc. to patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers in a timely manner and/or as determined by clinic policy/procedure.
  • Develop, provide, and systematically re-evaluate treatment plans for patients/patients' families.
  • Make appropriate referrals for patients when relevant services are available.
  • Offer assessment, consultation, and brief intervention for psychological/psychiatric problems and/or disorders.
  • Maintain documentation of patient encounters via progress notes, assessment/diagnostic information, and treatment planning as outlined in the Department's policy.
  • Participate in the rotation of clinical hours for late days and contribute to on-call provider duties.
  • Maintain necessary NP registration/licensure and CPR certification as required by Minnesota state law and ODHC policy.
  • Communicate changes, concerns, or issues with your Manager/Director.
  • Maintain relationships with other ODHC staff to ensure efficient daily operations of all departments.
  • Be knowledgeable of ODHC services to provide integrated care and assist patients/families in accessing needed resources.
  • Acknowledge and ensure adherence to the organization's policy related to patients' right for confidential care and HIPAA.
  • Perform other tasks assigned.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in nursing or DNP; licensure as CNP with prescriptive authority required.
  • DEA License Required.
  • A minimum of 3 years related work experience; previous experience in an advanced psychiatric nurse role preferred.
  • Adhere to ethical standards of licensing board.
  • Comply with credentialing requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products.
  • Ability to clearly summarize pertinent clinical information via written correspondence and medical records documentation.
  • Strong skills in case management, time management, written and oral communications.
  • Successful crisis management skills with experience in diffusing difficult situations.
  • Confidence, professional judgment, and grace under pressure.
  • Bilingual skills a plus.
Other Requirements

This position may require working outside typical workdays to facilitate the organization's business. Travel is necessary to meetings, events, and to support other clinic locations within the community and across the region. Means of travel and travel expenses will be reimbursed according to ODHC's travel policy. The ability to sit for extended periods, repetitive use of fingers, hands, wrist, fine motor skills, and tactile sense of both hands are essential job-related duties. Lifting up to 25 pounds is also required.
