Position Summary: Under the guidance of a senior technician, this role involves the upkeep and repair of electrical, mechanical, and water distribution systems at the Water Treatment Facility and Pumping Station. The incumbent will also serve as a qualified relief operator when designated.


Key Responsibilities:
1. Install, remove, and overhaul critical components of the water treatment infrastructure, including chemical feeders, clarifying tanks, filtration units, pumps, wells, and storage facilities.
2. Identify and rectify leaks and blockages within piping systems.
3. Disassemble, clean, lubricate, and reassemble motors, valves, pumps, and monitoring equipment.
4. Address equipment malfunctions reported by operators, making necessary adjustments and repairs.
5. Rebuild or modify water treatment components utilizing skills in welding, machining, and carpentry.
6. Conduct electrical, mechanical, and carpentry tasks as directed, including painting of pipes and equipment.
7. Clean equipment, replace chlorine tanks, and monitor chemical inventory.
8. Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns to ensure consistent water quality and supply.
9. As a relief operator, take periodic meter readings, conduct chemical and bacteriological analyses of water samples, and document findings.
10. Participate in the general maintenance of facility grounds as needed.
11. Operate cranes and assist in well maintenance tasks.
12. Collect bacteriological samples from the distribution system.
13. Drive vehicles as part of job responsibilities.
14. Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
15. Document maintenance activities and update logs for emergency and planned maintenance.
16. Keep workspaces and equipment organized and clean, adhering to safety protocols.
17. Follow safety procedures and guidelines consistently, including lock-out/tag-out practices.
18. Collect water samples for regulatory compliance.
19. Perform laboratory work, including reagent preparation and standard setting.
20. Undertake additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications: A valid Michigan driver's license and a clean driving record are required. A high school diploma and two years of experience in equipment maintenance and repair are necessary. A two-year vocational certificate in a related field is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates must obtain F-4 water treatment certification within one year of hire and maintain it throughout employment.

Employees are expected to maintain a record of lawful conduct and integrity, and must be physically and mentally capable of fulfilling job responsibilities.


Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this position include frequent standing, walking, and the use of hands for tool operation. The role may require lifting up to 90 pounds and working with hazardous materials while adhering to safety protocols.
