Join Our Team as a National Tax Policy Director

Cherry Bekaert, a leading assurance, tax, and advisory firm, is seeking an experienced National Tax Policy Director to join our team. As a key member of our National Tax Practice Office (NTPO), you will play a critical role in shaping our tax policy and strategy.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with tax leadership and firm leadership to execute the firm's strategic plan and support other leaders in their execution of the strategic plan.
  • Work with the NTPO practice to provide technical and new legislation guidance, quality and risk management, and technical training.
  • Provide support for the firm's tax practice by reading, researching, and analyzing new tax guidance on emerging tax issues and trends.
  • Ensure that NTPO tax technical services to clients are of the highest quality and exceed client expectations for timely, responsive service.
  • Advise internally on thought leadership technical matters that require sound judgment and tax technical expertise.
  • Represent Cherry Bekaert at major conferences and with outside organizations, such as the Tax Executives Institute, to address current developments in legislative proposals, judicial decisions, regulatory and administrative guidance, and tax administration and tax policy.
  • Help to recruit, develop, and retain NTPO staff.
  • Contribute to our culture of continuous learning and exhibit a personal growth mindset.
  • Help to develop processes to standardize the delivery of services the firm provides to reduce risk and maximize efficiency and quality.
  • Set an example of personal involvement in client service.
  • Help to ensure that all Firm Tax management, professional practice, and business processes are consistently applied in the NTPO.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • CPA, JD, LLM, and/or MST/MBT required.
  • Prior experience in national tax practice office quality control/policy development required.
  • Demonstrated ability to help lead, develop, and enhance the knowledge of a technical team of tax subject matter experts.
  • Prior leadership experience on the Hill, Treasury, and/or the IRS is desirable.
  • Proficiency in various tax applications and research tools required (CCH Access, RIA Checkpoint, BNA, or similar).
  • A broad base of knowledge in tax compliance, tax consulting, and client service, with expertise in a few key areas of taxation.
  • Capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with Firm and client personnel to achieve the Firm's vision, strategy, and goals.
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously with a team and independently.
  • Excellent project management and analytical skills.
  • Superior verbal and written communications skills with the ability to evaluate and articulate complex information via email, phone, and video.
