Job Summary:

The Interventional Radiology Technologist plays a crucial role in assisting with various invasive angiographic and interventional procedures within the Interventional Radiology Suite. This position involves responsibilities related to surgical scrubbing, circulation duties, and ensuring comprehensive patient care during and after procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts specialized radiographic and fluoroscopic imaging for interventional and angiographic procedures under physician supervision.
  • Communicates the procedure details to patients and prepares them accordingly.
  • Acquires necessary medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast materials as directed for administration by authorized personnel.
  • Maintains patient comfort while circulating during procedures.
  • Supplies essential materials for diagnostic and therapeutic invasive interventions.
  • Handles the removal of catheters/sheaths and applies direct pressure or clamps as required.
  • Delivers necessary reports to the holding area or nursing unit as needed.
  • Accurately records and processes hemodynamic reports, contrast media records, and charges.
  • Inputs patient data and inventory into the WITT program and ensures films are sent for review.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to leadership or the department engineer for timely repairs.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires standing and walking while wearing lead radiation protection aprons weighing between 10 to 15 pounds. Exposure to radiation, bodily fluids, and blood is inherent to the role. Normal vision, manual dexterity, and excellent hand-eye coordination are essential for operating equipment effectively. Continuous concentration is necessary during procedures.

Qualifications:

A High School Diploma or GED is required. Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technologist Program or an accredited Radiology Interventional Program is necessary. BLS certification is required per policy guidelines. Registration as a Radiologic Technologist is mandatory. A minimum of one year in diagnostic radiology and one year in Interventional Radiology is preferred. Candidates must meet all required competency checklist elements for the position.
