The Telemetry Monitoring Specialist is responsible for overseeing, documenting, and interpreting the electrocardiogram readings of patients utilizing telemetry systems. This role is crucial in identifying and communicating arrhythmias to the medical or nursing teams.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates advanced cardiac monitoring equipment, including ECG rhythm displays, computerized dysrhythmia detection systems, and rhythm documentation tools.
- Monitors and records ECG data in accordance with established protocols, providing essential information such as patient identification, room number, cardiac rhythm, dysrhythmias, and critical situations to the relevant personnel.
- Maintains and cleans monitoring equipment, promptly reporting any technical issues to the appropriate biomedical engineering staff.
- Sets up the central monitoring station, oversees alarm systems, addresses false alarms, and corrects any misplacements of monitoring devices.
- Assists in rhythm analysis and dysrhythmia identification, documenting significant events such as defibrillation, electrical cardioversion, CPR, and administration of emergency medications.
- Records patient data in a monitoring log, ensuring a precise and organized account of the patient's cardiac status throughout their care episode. Recognizes and documents any changes in the patient's rhythm and overall condition.
- Must be enrolled in a relevant educational program to obtain Cardiac Rhythm Certification within one year if current certification is not held.
- Understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology related to ECG waveforms, complexes, timing, and voltage as demonstrated through the conduction system and rhythm interpretation.
- Familiarity with telemetry services.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare team members.
- Capacity to manage frequent interruptions and adapt to changing workloads and schedules.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, make critical decisions, and respond swiftly to emergencies.
- Skill in handling challenging situations involving patients, physicians, or other stakeholders in a professional manner.
