Job Summary:

ARUP Laboratories is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Processing Technician I to join our team. As a Processing Technician I, you will be responsible for processing biological specimens received at our central facility and preparing them for laboratory testing. This is an excellent opportunity to learn and grow with a leading national clinical and anatomic pathology reference laboratory.

Key Responsibilities:

Reads and signs all department-specific SOPs and Safety Manual

Attends Specimen Processing team and staff meetings

Immediately processes specimens as they become available

Enters patient demographics and processes specimens/orders using the appropriate applications

Orders all tests indicated on the requisition

Processes all manual and electronically transmitted tests on submitted paperwork

Properly comments any additional information on the requisition/packing list

Follows department process to resolve issues when problems are identified

Handles and labels all specimens and paperwork appropriately

Recognizes and appropriately handles all specimen types per corporate and departmental procedure

Properly documents all specimen receipt information as outlined in departmental procedures

Ensures all appropriate identifiers are checked on all received specimens/paperwork and electronically

Properly handles specimens requiring a reroute or to be shared

Requirements:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Ability to maintain department quality, productivity, and reliability requirements

Successful completion of departmental competency testing exam with a score of 90% or higher

1 year of data entry experience and/or laboratory experience preferred

Work Environment:

Biohazard laboratory environment requiring use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company/departmental policies

Physical and Other Requirements:

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction

Mobility: Moving between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc

PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company/departmental policies
