About This Role:

This is a hybrid Associate Director-level position on the Pacific Life Investments (PLI) Private Assets team in Newport Beach, CA. As a Private Credit Associate Director, you will play a key role in expanding our exposure to investment-grade assets in the fund finance sector and other private asset-backed finance investments.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies for growing the fund finance portfolio by collaborating with the team.
  • Originate new investments through deal-sourcing relationships across the private equity and private credit fund finance markets.
  • Screen and underwrite new investment opportunities, preparing detailed investment recommendations for the investment committee.
  • Monitor the performance of investments until maturity, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and coordinating with internal teams.
  • Analyze investment performance and strategy, presenting findings to senior leadership.
  • Mentor and develop a team of analysts, fostering skills necessary for future leadership roles within PLI Private Assets.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure the fund finance strategy remains competitive and compliant.
  • Lead or participate in special projects and initiatives to improve investment processes and systems.
  • Occasionally travel for investment due diligence and industry conferences.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • 5-7 years of experience in investment management in the insurance or financial services industry.
  • A proven track record in sourcing, underwriting, structuring, and managing private credit investments.
  • A strong understanding of fund finance and related investments in private equity and private credit, including performance and key market participants.
  • Existing relationships that result in channels for sourcing deal flow.
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities for complex investment structures.
  • Credit analysis and risk assessment experience for investment-grade credit.
  • Familiarity with financial modeling and valuation techniques.
  • An intellectually inquisitive, positive attitude, collaborative, and team-oriented individual.
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills to articulate investment strategies and recommendations.
  • Bachelor's degree; advanced degree and CFA desirable.
