Software Development Manager, Alexa Communications

As a Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for building and managing a team to work on the Communications Software Features we are developing on our devices.

You will work closely with the Amazon Communications Organization to deliver and innovate on the features for current and next generation of devices.

Your role will also require managing and building a strong team who will take on this challenge.

Your team must deliver very high quality and robust communications software deliverable while focusing extensively on continually improving the customer experience of our solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Mentoring and Developing software engineers at different experience levels
  • Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments; manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Management of departmental resources, staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-of-class engineering team
  • Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and tradeoffs and partner with Engineering teams for end-to-end solutions for best customer experience

Participate in periodic product strategy sessions and planning team roadmap and strategy

Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
  • 6+ years of leading system software /OS/ App Framework /devices platform experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in the video streaming technologies (H.264/WebRTC/SDP/SIP/RTP)

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets.

The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market.

Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
