Environmental Specialist Job Description

The Environmental Specialist position plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local regulations, as well as corporate policies and procedures. This position is responsible for implementing and administering standardized processes to achieve world-class status and reduce environmental impacts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage routine environmental reports, compliance tasks, inventories, and surveys, including data acquisition, documentation, record-keeping, monitoring, review, and approval.
  • Develop and implement environmental training programs and assessments to ensure required training is identified and conducted.
  • Conduct regular audits of EHS processes and follow up to ensure compliance, advising plant leadership and corporate staff of findings.
  • Analyze environmental incidents, determine root causes, implement corrective action, and communicate findings to plant leadership and corporate.
  • Support new equipment programs at the concept stage to ensure environmental design specifications and regulations are included.
  • Coordinate communication of environmental regulatory inspection activity with plant leadership.
  • Lead environmental projects to improve key performance metrics.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of the plant's environmental management system to meet EMS E2HS and SPW Environment Pillar requirements.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Engineering, Science, or related field.
  • Basic understanding of federal, state, provincial, and local environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant environmental compliance experience, such as auditing, consulting, manufacturing, etc.
  • Willingness to work on any shift and additional hours as required.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite and/or other software.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Environmental, Engineering, Science, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, provincial, and local environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Environmental-related professional certifications (e.g., PE, CHMM).
  • Automotive or manufacturing environmental compliance experience.
