Emergency Medical Technician

As an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Paramedic with WellStar Health Systems, you will play a critical role in providing emergency medical care to patients in need. This position requires a high level of skill and expertise in administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen, and other life-saving interventions. You will work closely with paramedics to deliver emergency patient care and ensure the safety of patients during transportation. Your responsibilities will include preparing for responses, responding to emergency calls, delivering care, transporting patients, documenting incidents, and participating in life safety programs and community awareness initiatives.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:- Visually and manually check assigned EMS unit and equipment for functional readiness upon reporting for duty.
- Respond to dispatched calls within one minute of notification between the hours of 0800 and 2300, and no more than three minutes between the hours of 2300 and 0800.
- Complete Patient Care Report and document applicable medical procedures and protocols.
- Accurately complete patient information on billing sheet and mark charge code according to the service provided.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the departments Standing Orders and apply said orders appropriately when indicated.
- Cooperate with ancillary departments and agencies to assure continuity of care and completion on any investigation of illness and/or accident.
- Use appropriate levels terminology/language when communicating with patients, families, physicians, and co-workers.
- Replenish expended supplies/equipment and sanitize ambulance after each use.
- Assist with daily station duties and other special details as defined by the Standard Operating Procedure.
- Operate emergency vehicles in a safe manner in accordance with applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Continuously observe patients during transfer and monitor for a change in condition.
- Relay all pertinent information and personal belongings upon arrival to the receiving facility.
- Participate in community awareness programs and public relation events as assigned.
- Follow the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- Demonstrate knowledge of techniques, procedures, and correct use of protective barrier equipment.
- Ensure a safe environment by instituting appropriate control measures.
- Attend/complete annual education programs.
- Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
- Interact with all of the above in a considerate, helpful, and courteous manner as observed by nurse manager and peers.
- Foster mature professional relationships with fellow employees in a courteous, friendly manner as measured by management observation and peer input.
- Maintain professional composure and confidence during stressful situations.
- Maintain open communication using appropriate chain of command regarding issues.
- Conduct all work activities with respect for rights and wishes of patients, visitors, families, and fellow employees.
- Maintain confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times as observed by peers and management.
- Presents neat appearance in proper attire and identification as required by the position, department, and the hospital's policy.
- Continuously displays a positive attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program in place at the hospital.
- Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter- and intradepartmentally to facilitate the department's/units ability to meet its goals and objectives.
- Utilizes shared management model to facilitate decision-making regarding practice, educational, and quality improvement.
- Participates in a minimum of one staff meeting per quarter.
- Supports the hospital's mission, policies, and procedures.
- Demonstrates competence in using the Cerner computer system.
- Completes work assignments on time/readily accepts assignments.
- Reports to work on time and is at work as scheduled and confirmed by Kronos system.
- Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
- Identifies and/or assumes activities relative to the developmental needs of the unit and the nursing department.
- Demonstrates dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the unit and hospital.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):- EMT-Advanced or EMT-BASIC or EMT-Intermediate.
- Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor.
Preferred experience as an EMT.
