Role Summary:
This position involves the processing and management of routine and specialized medical and surgical supplies and instruments essential for patient care. Responsibilities include cleaning, high-level disinfection/sterilization, and packaging of medical and surgical instrument trays.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assemble instrument baskets, basin sets, and equipment according to established checklists, preparing them for sterilization.
2. Compile sets of supplies and instruments for various clinical applications, ensuring cleanliness and operational integrity (e.g., sharpness of scissors, functionality of hinged instruments).
3. Decontaminate, disinfect, and thoroughly clean supplies, instruments, and equipment utilized in numerous procedures.
4. Distribute instruments, equipment, and supplies to designated areas.
5. Monitor and maintain sufficient inventory levels of supplies, instruments, and equipment.
6. Inspect equipment for malfunctions, perform minor repairs, and alert appropriate personnel for major repairs.
7. Exhibit proficiency in the reprocessing and upkeep of endoscopes and related equipment in accordance with high-level disinfection policies and manufacturer guidelines. Maintain scope washers and detergent levels, ensuring effective disinfection.
8. Interact with equipment following manufacturer instructions, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of instrument and equipment protocols.
9. Adhere to personal protective equipment (PPE) policies.
10. Maintain necessary supplies for cleaning and reprocessing, effectively communicating any equipment failures or repair needs.
11. Accurately document all actions in the appropriate logs.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● No licensure or certification necessary.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● No prior experience required.
● If located at specific facilities, nine months of experience as a sterile technician may be necessary.
● Graduation from a sterile processing program negates the experience requirement.
