Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Central Sterile Technician III to join our Sterile Processing team at UNC Health Johnston. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in preventing infection by sterilizing, cleaning, processing, assembling, storing, and distributing medical supplies.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all functions of the Central Sterile Tech II, including decontaminating, processing, and distributing supplies and equipment to departments.
  • Assist the supervisor in day-to-day activities, including answering phones and daily assignments.
  • Communicate closely with teammates concerning instrument requirements and availability.
  • Verify that required instrumentation has been sterilized and available for next-shift.
  • Document broken instrumentation and complete documentation as required for instrument sets, etc.
  • Orient, precept, and mentor trainees and technician I/IIs.
  • Share knowledge with teammates through open communication and continuous upgrading skills.
  • Conduct random audits on trays assembled by new teammates and provide re-education with techs on tray errors.
  • Serve as a resource by guiding new and current teammates to appropriate resource materials.
  • Assist with annual competency checklist.
  • Verify sterilization documentation for accuracy.
  • Track and monitor loads, documentation, and tray errors.
  • Maintain tracking system, including updating instrumentation, creating new products, and updating count sheets.
  • Aid in completing in-services for new products or processes.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of CPD, including decontamination, assembly, sterilizers, storage, and HLD.
Requirements
  • Requires two (2) years of central sterile tech experience.
  • Must hold Instrument Specialist certification.
  • Yellow Belt required after twelve (12) months.
  • Central Sterile Certification required after twelve (12) months.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of sterilizers, washer decontaminates, cart washers, and patient care equipment.
  • General knowledge of basic and specialty surgical instruments, implants, patient-related supplies, materials, and equipment, aseptic and sterilization techniques.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to break down moving parts, clean, lubricate, and reassemble.
  • Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge and understanding of a variety of OR procedures' surgical instruments, including working parts and proper inspection.
  • Aptitude for troubleshooting in a high-paced environment.
Work Details

This is a full-time position with a standard 40-hour workweek. The salary range is $27.16 per hour (hiring range). Pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity.

This position is employed by NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System. This is not a State employed position.
