Overview:
As a Breast Imaging Specialist, you will operate under the guidance of a licensed mammography technologist and a Radiologist. Your role is crucial in adhering to compliance standards and relevant regulations while providing exceptional care to patients of all ages, including adolescents, adults, and seniors.
Key Responsibilities:
1) **Patient Identification and Communication:**
- Ensure accurate identification of patients following established protocols.
- Review authorization forms and patient history to confirm the required examinations.
- Clearly explain procedures to patients in understandable terms.
2) **Operational Proficiency:**
- Utilize the Radiology and Mammography information systems effectively.
- Maintain knowledge of equipment manuals and safety protocols for mammography and related technologies.
3) **Clinical Imaging Duties:**
- Perform essential functions as a clinical mammography technologist, including positioning, compression, exposure, and film processing.
- Collaborate with the Radiologist to review diagnostic images and prepare them for interpretation.
4) **Collaboration and Coordination:**
- Act as a liaison with hospital staff to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
5) **Assistance in Interventional Procedures:**
- Support the Radiologist in various sterile procedures, including biopsies and aspirations.
- Manage documentation and transport of specimens for pathology review.
6) **Quality Assurance:**
- Oversee quality control measures for mammography and related equipment in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Participate in departmental quality assurance initiatives.
7) **Inventory Management:**
- Assist in maintaining the inventory of medical supplies.
Qualifications:
1) **Education:**
- Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
- Completion of an accredited Radiological Sciences Program or equivalent.
2) **Experience:**
- Preferred: 1 year of experience in radiography.
3) **Skills and Competencies:**
- Must complete 200 mammograms within 6 months under supervision.
- Must obtain 15 dedicated digital mammography credits.
