Job Summary

Rice County is seeking a highly skilled Correctional Officer to join our team at the Public Safety Center. As a Correctional Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for detainees and the general public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the security, safety, and well-being of detainees in accordance with Minnesota Department of Corrections 2911 Rules Governing Adult Detention Facilities.
  • Follow State Statutes and Constitutional Standards, Rice County Sheriff's Office and Jail Divisions policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a detailed and accurate jail log electronically, including detainee activities, court appearances, medical and dental appointments, medical problems, medication dispensed, meals ordered and received, and cell checks.
  • Maintain the shift communication log, sharing detailed information on detainee statuses, unit status, detainee bookings and release, safety and security concerns.
  • Receive and record various fees and monies.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with the courts, community corrections, probation officers, social workers, lawyers, supervisors, main jail, and detainees.
  • Perform Intake, Central Control, Internal Movement (Rover), and Housing officer tasks daily.
  • Assist the public with various services.
  • Transport detainees to/from court, medical appointments, between jurisdictions, and other approved activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Training beyond high school that can be obtained in one year or less.
  • Six months of related experience, or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in law enforcement or previous correctional experience.
Working Conditions

This position requires working rotating shifts, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Body searches and physical contact may be required with detainees.
