Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Detention Officer to join our team at a correctional facility. As a Detention Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our facility, while maintaining a safe and secure environment for detainees and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and Monitor Detainees: Oversee the daily activities of detainees in living, recreation, dining, and visitation areas, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Coordinate Movement and Emergency Response: Conduct counts, provide emergency response as needed, and coordinate the movement of detainees within the facility.
  • Conduct Shakedowns and Confiscate Contraband: Conduct regular shakedowns to detect and confiscate prohibited items, ensuring the security of the facility.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Keep detailed logs of detainee activities, including disciplinary reports, and ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Provide Medical Assistance: Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide assistance to detainees who have been injured, ill, or have suffered trauma.
  • Report Maintenance and Repair Needs: Identify and report any maintenance or repair needs to ensure the facility remains clean and secure.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent certification.
  • College Coursework and Training: Preferably possess college coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, correctional services, or a related field.
  • State Requisites: Possess applicable state requisites for employment.
  • Ability to Work Overtime: Ability to work overtime as required, including extended hours and rotating shifts.
  • Physical and Mental Demands: Ability to handle physical and mental stress associated with working in a correctional environment.
  • Reliability and Flexibility: Must be able to report to work on time and be flexible with scheduling.
