Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Deputy Sheriff. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our community, as well as providing excellent customer service to the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise inmate activities, prevent escapes, and maintain order, discipline, and security
  • Take appropriate action in emergency situations in accordance with established riot, hostage, fire, and disaster plans
  • Execute and return civil and criminal process, Department of Motor Vehicle suspension orders, court orders, levies, and evictions
  • Serve warrants and make arrests
  • Give testimony in court on actions taken during arrests and investigations in criminal matters
  • Secure the courtrooms to which assigned from disruption and violence
  • Escort prisoners to and from courts and the Adult Detention Center
  • Provide on-the-job training for newer deputies
  • Process inmates in and out of the Adult Detention Center
  • Oversee inmates in a specific area of the Adult Detention Center
  • Direct or escort all inmates in an assigned area
  • Keep a continual count of inmates in an assigned area
  • Oversee the handling and security of inmate property
  • Investigate complaints from inmates or the public concerning missing, misplaced, or mishandled inmate property
  • Transport, by vehicle, inmates and other individuals in custody
  • Perform instructor duties at the Criminal Justice Academy
  • Prepare and conduct roll call training
  • Ensure accurate and current files are maintained on all supply transactions and office equipment repair
  • Perform routine law enforcement duties as required (e.g. traffic enforcement, accident response and investigation, criminal investigations, etc.)
  • Maintain complete and accurate records and prepare clear and concise reports
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be able to obtain a valid motor vehicle driver's license. You must also be able to pass a background investigation, polygraph examination, and psychological examination.

Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work a shift work schedule, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. You must also be able to maintain a level of physical fitness appropriate to the assignment.
