Position Overview
The Safety and Environmental Coordinator will spearhead HSE initiatives and facilitate enhancements in HSE processes by evaluating work settings to devise and execute programs aimed at bolstering control efficiency, mitigating health risks, injuries, and environmental repercussions. This role encompasses responsibilities across various locations and may extend to additional regions as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee HSE compliance efforts in collaboration with site management teams to minimize risks for personnel, contractors, and visitors. Implement a safety onboarding program for new employees.
- Conduct and coordinate site evaluations to ensure adherence to relevant HSE regulations, including operational permits and the comprehensive HSE strategy, while tracking state reporting obligations. Maintain current knowledge of federal and state OSHA regulations, enforce compliance, and educate management and staff accordingly.
- Facilitate investigations, Learning Teams, HSE Committee meetings, and Small Group Activities. Collaborate with supervisors and team members to formulate action plans, provide expert guidance, and monitor the effectiveness of these plans.
- Administer Workers Compensation programs, manage claims, and engage employees and leaders, in partnership with the Senior Manager of HSE and HR support across various locations.
- Develop and deliver HSE training materials in conjunction with the HSE and Training Team. Monitor training completion and compliance metrics for assigned locations.
- Identify and lead initiatives for continuous improvement in HSE practices.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field. Candidates lacking a degree may be considered with a minimum of seven years of experience in an industrial HSE capacity.
- At least 3 years of experience in an industrial Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) role.
- Technical expertise in OSHA, EPA, DOT, SCAQMD, ANSI, NFPA (preferably with knowledge of California regulations).
- Proven understanding of Workers Compensation regulations.
- Demonstrated success in enhancing health and safety practices, including leadership and employee engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of California regulations including CalOSHA, OSHA, EPA, DOT, SCAQMD, ANSI, NFPA.
Skills & Competencies:
- Expertise in OSHA compliance and technical standards, with strong research capabilities.
- Influencing and negotiation skills.
