Position Overview:

The Ophthalmologist is accountable for providing comprehensive patient care by assessing medical histories and gathering essential data relevant to the patient's health status. This role involves delivering education, consultation, and treatment plans to patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct Patient Care:
    • Conduct evaluations, diagnoses, and treatments for patients with ocular and visual disorders, including conditions affecting the eyelid, orbit, and visual pathways.
    • Review and synthesize patient medical histories to inform care decisions.
    • Interpret and coordinate clinical information to guide patient management.
    • Educate and consult with patients and their families regarding treatment plans.
    • Collaborate with patients to enhance their health and wellness.
    • Practice with consideration for cultural diversity, individual autonomy, and legal obligations.
    • Document patient interactions electronically in compliance with professional standards.
    • Engage in a multidisciplinary approach to case management.
    • Provide care in various settings, including ambulatory clinics and hospitals.
    • Participate in on-call rotations as necessary.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Utilize quality improvement methodologies to enhance patient care processes and outcomes.
    • Engage in peer review and quality assurance initiatives.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral/Ph.D. level advanced degree in Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited residency in Ophthalmology or equivalent training.
  • Active medical license in Minnesota and Wisconsin upon hire.
  • ACLS-BLS certification required within 180 days of employment.
  • PALS certification may be required based on business unit.
  • NRP certification may be required based on business unit.
  • Drug Enforcement Agency registration and Prescription Monitoring Program enrollment required upon hire.
  • National Provider Identifier required upon hire.

Physical Requirements:

Medium Work: Lifting weights up to 32 lbs. occasionally and up to 25 lbs. frequently, in accordance with safety policies.
