Job Overview :
POSITION SUMMARY
The Specimen Processing Specialist is responsible for the meticulous reception, preparation, and processing of all laboratory specimens.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accurately registers patients and enters test orders into the laboratory information system to ensure correct testing and billing of patient accounts. (55%)
- Confirms specimen identification and prepares specimens in accordance with departmental protocols and procedures. (25%)
- Ensures the work area is clean and well-stocked to support efficient laboratory operations. (5%)
- Provides administrative support including answering calls, faxing reports, and managing send-outs. (5%)
- Operates and maintains laboratory instruments, identifies issues, and takes appropriate corrective actions. (5%)
- Guides and mentors Medical Laboratory Assistant students in specimen processing following established policies and procedures. (5%)
- Performs additional tasks as assigned or necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements
- At least 3 months of experience in a clinical laboratory environment, including registration and medical terminology, which may be obtained through a training program or degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a laboratory training program or a degree in clinical sciences is preferred.
