Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled R&D/Innovation Lab Technician to join our team at Heaven Hill Brands. As a key member of our research and development team, you will be responsible for supporting the functions of our R&D/Innovation Lab by utilizing precision measuring instruments and complex testing equipment to assist with laboratory projects and conduct routine lab functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute Program Barrel Projects: Prepare samples for tasting by filtering and proofing, creating and labeling of sales sample sets, requesting replacement barrels as needed, and maintaining the program barrel spreadsheet up to date to ensure timely completion of samples.
  • Assist with Sensory Evaluations: Participate in sensory evaluations of beverages to ensure that flavors meet specifications or to select samples with specific characteristics, such as shelf-life testing, triangle testing, and program barrel tasting.
  • Prepare Prototype Samples: Prepare prototype samples as directed by the Innovation Manager to support research and development projects.
  • Perform Laboratory Tests: Conduct laboratory tests as directed by the Innovation Manager to analyze and evaluate the quality of our products.
  • Develop Reports: Develop verbal and written reports to communicate the results of tests completed, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
  • Send Samples for Testing: Send samples for third-party testing, such as nutritional analyses, Ethyl Carbamate (EC), geosmin, fusel oils, etc., as needed to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with International Team: Work with the International Team and Export Bulk Coordinator to have samples tested and provide updated documentation for those products as needed.
  • Maintain Laboratory Instruments: Maintain laboratory instruments or equipment in good working order, including scheduling routine maintenance and sending units out for repair as needed.
  • Order Laboratory Supplies: Order laboratory supplies as needed, such as solutions, pipettes, tasting cups, etc., to ensure a well-stocked laboratory.
  • Foster a Safe Work Environment: Participate in safety programs, committees, or teams and conduct laboratory or plant safety audits to ensure a safe working environment.
Requirements
  • Education: Associate's degree in Research & Development, Chemistry, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years' experience in laboratory work, specifically with using weights/measures for mathematical and laboratory operations to support research projects.
  • Skills: Proficient computer skills with experience utilizing Microsoft Office software, complex problem-solving, excellent mathematic, analytical, and critical thinking skills, detail-oriented, organized, and time-bound with competence in both written and verbal communication.
  • Disciplined Self-Starter: Disciplined self-starter capable of managing various tasks on a routine basis and meeting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree in a technical or related field.
  • Advanced Computer Skills: Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience in Distilled Spirits Industry: Experience in the distilled spirits industry.
