Position Overview

Sesame Workshop is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in Literacy Technology. This role is part of a postdoctoral fellowship supervised by Dr. Medha Tare at the Joan Ganz Cooney Center, a dedicated research and innovation facility within Sesame Workshop. The Cooney Center focuses on fostering positive outcomes for children in the digital landscape through research and collaboration with various stakeholders.

The primary responsibility of this position involves establishing co-design research partnerships through the Cooney Center Sandbox initiative, which aims to promote child-centered and evidence-based digital design. The fellow will collaborate with the Senior Director of Research to engage with educational technology firms, translating research findings into actionable strategies for enhancing literacy development among children and adolescents.

Position Details: This is a twelve-month full-time appointment, with the possibility of extension for up to three years, offering a competitive salary of $75,000 along with health insurance and additional benefits, including funding for conference travel. Candidates who can commit for three years are preferred. A completed PhD is required by the start date. This position operates in a hybrid model.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Psychology, Education, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Development, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in collaborative design or community-based research is advantageous.
  • Proven expertise in literacy development for children and adolescents, including knowledge of reading science.
  • Demonstrated skills in data collection and analysis, along with strong organizational and communication abilities.
  • Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively on multiple projects while sharing expertise with colleagues.

Additional Skills:

  • Excellent writing capabilities for co-authoring reports, academic papers, and blog entries.
  • Interest in bridging academic research with practical applications in industry settings.
  • Proficiency in productivity tools such as Google Workspace and Microsoft Office, as well as online communication platforms like Slack, Teams, and Zoom.
