JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant/X-Ray is tasked with delivering essential care to clinic patients in accordance with established standards and practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

– Additional responsibilities may be assigned.

· Triage patients based on their injuries or illnesses.

· Manage patient care responsibilities, which may include checking schedules and organizing patient flow.

· Escort patients to examination or procedure rooms, observing, recording, and reporting their conditions and reactions to treatments and medications.

· Assist patients with mobility, transfers, dressing, specimen collection, and preparation for examinations.

· Gather patient histories, including current medications, allergies, and symptoms.

· Provide patient care as directed by the healthcare provider, which may involve screenings and treatments following nursing standards.

· Support providers during various procedures as required.

· Document patient charts and relay information and instructions to patients and their families, ensuring all interventions and communications are recorded in the medical record.

· Respond to patient phone calls and messages, acting as a communication liaison between patients and providers.

· Perform clerical duties as assigned, which may include filing or sending medical records to patients or referral providers, as well as scheduling appointments.

· Collect and handle laboratory specimens in accordance with established standards and practices, adhering to infection control safety guidelines while maintaining equipment and supplies.

· Utilize the electronic referral process to complete requested physician referrals to NCHMD specialists and ancillary services.

· Conduct diagnostic x-rays with minimal exposure to self or patients, ensuring proper patient identification prior to exams and obtaining necessary signatures.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

· High School diploma or GED is required.

· Completion of a Medical Assistant or practical nursing training program with documented clinical practicum hours; OR Medical Assistant certification; OR a minimum of one year of experience in a medical office setting as a Medical Assistant or in a similar role.

· Current Florida Basic X-Ray Machine Operator (BMO) License.

· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association is required.

· Proven ability to accurately measure patient vital signs.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey information to patients.

· Familiarity with CPT and ICD10 coding.

· Intermediate computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.

· Knowledge of basic and specialty-specific medical terminology.

· Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions while maintaining professionalism.
