About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced High Performance Computing Architect to join our team at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. As a key member of our Scientific Computing and Data group, you will play a critical role in architecting, designing, and leading the technical operations for our computational and data science ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Operations Leadership: Lead the technical operations, including architecting, designing, expanding, monitoring, supporting, and maintaining our computational and data science ecosystem, consistent with best practices.
  • Troubleshooting and Resolution: Lead the troubleshooting, isolation, and resolution of all technical issues.
  • System Administration: Lead the design, development, implementation, and management of all system administration tasks, including hardware and software configuration, configuration management, system monitoring, usage reporting, system performance, security, networking, and metrics.
  • Collaboration and Compliance: Collaborate effectively with research and hospital system IT, compliance, HIPAA, security, and other departments to ensure compliance with all regulations and Sinai policies.
  • Research and Development: Partner with other peers regionally, nationally, and internationally to discover, propose, and deploy a world-class research infrastructure for Mount Sinai.
  • Financial Management: Prepare and manage budgets for hardware, software, and maintenance, and participate in chargeback/fee recovery analysis and provide suggestions to make operations sustainable.
  • Integration and Optimization: Lead the integration of HPC resources with laboratory equipment, such as genomic sequencers, and researches, deploys, and optimizes resource management and scheduling software and policies.
  • Security and Documentation: Researches, deploys, and manages security infrastructure, including development of policies and procedures, and lead and assist the team to resolve user support requests from researchers.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively and productively with other team members within the group and across Mount Sinai.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or another scientific field. Master's or PhD preferred.
  • Experience: 8 years of progressive HPC system administration and operations, preferably in a Redhat/CentOS Linux administration, Batch HPC cluster environment.
  • Skills: Expert troubleshooter, team player, customer-focused, strong experience with configuration management systems, networking, and security.
  • Preferred Experience: Experience with archival storage and tape libraries, databases, web services, compliance, HIPAA, GDPR, FISMA, managing web access to HPC resources, and cloud technology.
