Oral Surgery Support Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Surgical Dental Assistant to join our team at Greater Columbus Oral Surgery & Dental Implants. As an integral part of our surgical team, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our surgeons during procedures.
About the RoleThe Surgical Dental Assistant will be responsible for assisting surgeons during surgeries by performing various duties such as tissue retraction, intravenous line management, and documentation. Key responsibilities include:
- Performing preoperative and postoperative tasks to ensure seamless patient care.
- Verifying patient identity and operative site details.
- Collaborating with surgeons to discuss surgical procedures, consent, and exposure methods.
- Maintaining aseptic technique throughout procedures.
- Ensuring an unobstructed operative field using retractors, sponges, suctioning, and irrigating equipment.
- Coordinating necessary equipment and supplies for procedures.
- Inspecting and obtaining sterile and non-sterile surgical equipment, supplies, and instruments.
- Operating sterilization devices.
- Monitoring patient status during procedures.
- Obtaining dental radiographs and imaging.
- Completing patient clinical narratives.
- Additional duties as assigned.
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- BLS certification or the ability to obtain it within one month of hire.
- At least one year of related experience preferred.
- DAANCE certification preferred.
- Licensed dental assistant preferred.
- Radiology certification preferred.
