Job Summary

The Registered Nurse - Patient Care Specialist provides direct patient care and collaborates with patients, family members, peers, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality patient services. Key Responsibilities
  • Assesses patient needs, plans care, implements, and evaluates medical and nursing regimens in accordance with hospital philosophy, policies, and standards.

  • Utilizes the nursing process to meet the age-specific needs of patients in all aspects of care, including biophysical, psychosocial, education, safety, and discharge planning.
  • Recognizes and prioritizes patient care and unit-based issues, addressing them with appropriate actions.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, family members, and healthcare professionals.
  • Integrates patient rights and nursing ethics into work practice.
  • Adheres to infection control standards to reduce the risk of nosocomial infections.
  • Delegates activities to ancillary staff as required by the State Nurse Practice Act.
  • Supports, promotes, and practices within the hospital's Professional Nursing Practice Model.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Completes competency requirements and attends mandatory in-services.
  • Assumes Charge Nurse responsibility and performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current New York registration.
  • Baccalaureate in Nursing (BSN) required for all external RNs hired on or after January 1st, 2018.
  • One year of acute care nursing experience preferred for areas other than medical surgical or step-down.
  • BLS certification (through American Heart Association) is required.
  • ACLS certification (through American Heart Association) is required for all RNs, except for NICU and OR RNs.
  • PALS certification (through American Heart Association) is required for all RNs working in the PACU, 5I Pediatrics, Emergency Department, Armonk Urgent Care, and Ambulatory Surgery.
  • NRP certification is required for all RNs working in the Mother-Baby unit, Labor & Delivery, and NICU.
  • Successful completion of Department and Unit Orientation Program.
  • Core Competencies: Teamwork & Adaptability, Acts as a Professional Role Model, Assessment Skills, Excellent Communication Skills, Attention to Detail, Planning & Organizing, Sound Problem-Solving, Judgment, and Decision-Making Skills, Stress Tolerance.
Work Environment

The Registered Nurse - Patient Care Specialist may be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. The position requires ability to move about freely at least 85% of the time, remain stationary for extended periods, and transport objects up to 50 pounds. The individual must be able to work in an environment with continuous interruptions, adapt to a high-stress and fast-paced environment, and detect sounds and respond to emergency signals at all times.

Primary Population Served

The Registered Nurse - Patient Care Specialist will work with various patient populations, including neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, and bariatric patients with weight-related comorbidities.
